Hector joined ONSET Ventures after serving as a Venture Advisor with Diamondhead Ventures. He is the Leonard Bosack and Sandra Lerner Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He was the Chairman of the Computer Science Department from January 2001 to December 2004.

Hector serves on the Board of Directors of Oracle Corporation and Kintera. In addition, he serves on the Technical Advisory Board of DoCoMo Labs USA.

From 1997 to 2001, he was a member of the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC). Hector previously was on the faculty of the Computer Science Department at Princeton University. Hector was the Principal Investigator for the Stanford Digital Library Project in the 1990's, and the Google search engine emerged from that project.

Hector's research interests include distributed computing systems, digital libraries and database systems. He has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
